How To Remove A Washing Machine Before Upgrading

Getting a new washing machine is a great feeling. But first, you have to deal with the old one. Removing it yourself is a task you can handle. With some simple steps, you can get it ready for its exit. This makes the delivery of your new machine considerably easier.

Gather your tools and a helper:

Before washing machine removal, collect what you want. You will want some old towels or rags, a pair of pliers, and maybe a small bucket. The most important thing is a friend to help you. Lifting a washing machine alone is not safe. Having two people makes the job simpler and prevents injury.

Cut the power and water supply:

Safety first! Ensure the machine is turned off and unplugged from the wall. Do not just turn the dials to off; pull the plug. Next, find the water valves on the wall behind the machine. Turn them clockwise until they will not turn anymore. This stops the water from flowing into the machine.

Drain the hoses and machine:

Now, let’s get rid of the leftover water. Place your towels on the floor under the connections. Grab your bucket. Unscrew the water hoses from the back of the machine. Some water will drip out, so have your bucket ready to catch it. Once the hoses are off, let them drain into the bucket.

Prepare the machine for moving:

Look at the back of the machine. You will see the drain hose, which is a large, flexible pipe. Detach it from the standpipe or sink it drains into. Carefully push all the hoses into the back of the machine so they do not snag. Use tape to secure the power cord to the side of the machine to keep it tidy.

Move the machine with care:

This is where your helper is essential. Do not try to drag or slide the machine. Washing machines are very heavy and can damage your floor. Both of you should bend your knees, not your backs. Lift together and walk slowly. Take small steps and communicate with each other.

Clean the space and get ready:

With the old machine gone, you have a clean slate. Wipe down the floor and the wall where the old machine sat. Check the water valves to ensure they are not leaking. This is the perfect time to clean an area that is often forgotten. Now, the space is fresh and prepared for your new appliance.
